
She had several tours in the military as a general dentist, to include tours in the Republic of Panama and as Division Dental Surgeon for the 7th Light Infantry. As a general dentist, she had many specialty rotations with board certified specialists to advance her knowledge in all aspects of dentistry. In 1994, she was selected for training in Periodontics at a three-year joint program with the U.S. Army and the Medical College of Georgia. She received her certificate in Periodontics from the Army Periodontics program at Fort Gordon, GA and a Masters Degree in Oral Biology from the Medical College of Georgia in June 1997. The following year she became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
During her final assignment at Fort Sam Houston, she fulfilled many additional duties as Infection Control Officer, Officer-in-Charge of Rhoades Dental Clinic (a specialty clinic), Chairman of the Implant Board, Chairman of the Quality Insurance Committee, Member of the Credentials Committee and Associate mentor of the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery residency. She is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, The American Board of Periodontology, American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, San Antonio District Dental Society, Southwest Society of Periodontists, and Texas Society of Periodontists.
